By age 12, most of your child’s permanent teeth have erupted, making it an ideal time to evaluate their alignment. Crooked teeth, gaps, and bad bites can become more noticeable during these years, and addressing them early can prevent future complications. It’s likely that your family dentist has encouraged you to consider an orthodontic evaluation.

Starting treatment during adolescence is often more effective, as well. Since the bone and surrounding tissues are still developing, orthodontic adjustments can be more stable and require less time than treatments for adults.

The teenage years are also a time when wearing braces is more socially accepted, allowing your child to feel like they fit in with their peers.

During your first consultation, Dr. Brockway will take the time to carefully examine the patient’s mouth to assess their orthodontic needs. She’ll discuss their dental development, review any problem areas, and outline the various treatment options available.

The first appointment is a fantastic opportunity to ask questions and voice any concerns. If the person feels ready to proceed with treatment, we may take impressions of their teeth to help us get a clearer picture.

Finally, Dr. Brockway will analyze previous dental records and the results from the clinical examination to create a personalized treatment plan.
